The Data.ai platform studied the mobile gaming market for the third quarter of 2022. During this period, gamers spent more than $1.54 billion on games each week and downloaded more than 1.1 billion.

Compared to the same period in 2021, the numbers are down but still 25% higher than the pre-pandemic totals.

The situation in marketplaces from Data.ai

Google Play’s performance dominates the App Store. According to Data.ai, games account for nearly half of the 30 billion app downloads on Google Play. On iOS, the figure is 25%.

On Google Play, games also dominated revenue and brought in two-thirds of the $11.4 billion in the quarter. By comparison, iOS accounted for just over 50% of the $21 billion earned.

Side note: The mobile gaming market will exceed $175 billion by 2027.

Regarding downloads, Google Play excelled in India and Brazil, while Iraq, Vietnam and Bangladesh posted the most considerable quarter-over-quarter growth.

In terms of player spending, the U.S., Japan and South Korea brought in the most revenue, while France, Vietnam and Italy grew the most compared to the previous period.

Charts

Subway Surfers, Honor of Kings and Roblox continued their dominance. The situation in the lower ranks remained volatile. Stumble Guys proved to be a strong contender this quarter and moved up three positions to number two on the download chart. The game entered the MAU chart at number 8.

Diablo Immortal showed tremendous growth during this period and jumped 55 positions to seven on the consumer spending chart. The game launched at the end of the second quarter and quickly became a huge success, topping the iPhone download charts in 122 countries and 16 on Google Play.

The game also had similar success in terms of consumer spending and became number one in 27 iPhone and 5 Google Play markets.
