International developer and publisher Jagex has announced the acquisition of American company Pipeworks Studios. This first acquisition of an outside studio reflects Jagex’s intentions to expand the team and grow in the North American market.

Jagex is known for its flagship product, RuneScape. In 2012 the number of registered users in the game exceeded 200 million. In 2008, RuneScape was listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most popular free-to-play MMORPG in the world. Later, the game was again included in the book, but in another category: MMORPG, with the most significant number of program updates.

In 2021, Jagex was purchased by Carlyle, an international investment company, to support its growth strategy.

Jagex is excited to welcome Pipeworks into the family. Pipeworks provides an incredible opportunity to attract world-class game development talent

Phil Mansell, CEO of Jagex

Terms of the acquisition of Pipeworks Studios were not disclosed.
