British studio Jagex may change ownership again. According to Reuters sources, the investment fund The Carlyle Group is discussing the studio’s sale with consultants.

According to Reuters, the authors of RuneScape estimated at £1 billion or about $1.25 billion. It is assumed that if the sale does take place, it will happen closer to the end of the year.

The publication’s sources say the potential buyers will be private equity firms. They will be able to use Jagex to buy up smaller game studios.

The Carlyle Group acquired developers RuneScape in January 2021 for an unnamed sum. Before that, Jagex belonged to Macarthur Fortune, which, in turn, in April 2020, bought the studio from China’s Fukong Interactive for $530 million.
