Circana (formerly NPD Group) has released a report on the USA’s best-selling games, consoles, and accessories. According to Mat Piscatella, executive director of Circana, in February 2023, spending on games in the USA reached $4.6 billion, with hardware sales up 68% thanks to the PS5.
Spending on games in the USA reached $4.6 billion in February, up 6% from a year ago. This is the highest percentage increase since October 2021.
Players spent $3.89 billion on video game content, up 1 percent from the same period last year.
Growth in digital content on console and PC platforms, as well as non-mobile subscription spending, offset the decline in spending on mobile devices.

Hardware sales totaled $495 million, up 68% from last year. This is the highest hardware spending for the month since the $534 million achieved in February 2009.
The increase in hardware sales was mainly due to the PlayStation 5. U.S. gamers spent $212 million on game accessories, up 13 percent from last year.

The gaming market is still expected to grow 3% in 2023, +/- 5%, because it’s still a wild and frenetic video game market. Still, so far, so good for 2023.
