NetEase earned $2.9 billion from games in the first quarter, almost half as much as Tencent. It reported that the gaming business generated the majority of the company’s revenue. The Chinese video games company continues to fend off increased competition from Genshin Impact developer miHoYo in the world’s largest video gaming market.
- NetEase’s entire revenue was $3.6 billion, up 6.3% year over year.
- 80.5% of revenue came from games – $2.9 billion (+7.6%). It should be noted that the company still earns much less than Tencent on games. Revenue in the gaming division of competitor NetEase in the first quarter amounted to $5.4 billion.
- Games in the series Fantasy Westward Journey and Westward Journey Online, as well as titlons Identity V, Justice, and the mobile version of New Ghost, have grown in popularity. Exactly how their numbers have changed is not specified.
- Eggy Party (蛋仔派对) was the most downloaded iOS mobile game in China for the quarter.
