During the first six months of 2023, Germany’s gaming industry functioned at an impressive rate and expanded noticeably on various occasions. GfK and GfK Entertainment have jointly conducted a special analysis this year for the gaming hardware and accessories segments to celebrate Gamescom. 

Game console sales, as the representative sales data show, have risen by 90 percent relative to the same period last year. Not only did the PS5 aid in the gains, but solid sales were also seen for Nintendo Switch as well. In 2023, Sony’s bestseller is finally available nationwide and has sold three times more units than during the first six months of 2022.

  • In the first half of 2023, sales of physical copies of games in Germany increased by 2% compared to last year. Sales leaders are The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Hogwarts Legacy, and FIFA 23.
