NetEase Games and CCP Games have teamed up with Massively Multiplayer Online Science, VIB, and Ghent University to bring Project Discovery to the popular mobile game EVE Echoes.

Project Discovery is a project in which thousands of players collaborate on science projects and process data, sometimes even faster than scientists.

After several rounds of gamer-assisted research, the partnering companies believe it’s time to bring this unique science project to EVE Echoes. Project Discovery has previously enjoyed great success in EVE Online.

This isn’t the first time Project Discovery has been used in games. For example, Borderlands 3 from publisher 2K collaborated with MMOS to introduce a minigame that helped scientists analyze gene sequences in the human gut microbiome.

More than 2 million Borderlands 3 players participated in this project in exchange for in-game rewards. What scientists discover during the project’s implementation in EVE Echoes will help numerous biological studies and prevent and cure diseases in the future. NetEase Games rewards players for assisting with scientific research with rewards and in-game prizes.

Previously, such projects have struggled to recruit participants, but the introduction of games has breathed new life and attracted millions. NetEase Games is proud of the work that went into this project.
