NetEase and Shueisha Games have announced the joint development of UnVEIL the World, an RPG with tactical character challenges. Posuka Demizu, illustrator of the popular manga The Promised Neverland, will develop the game’s character design.

UnVEIL the World was announced at Tokyo Game Show 2022, the largest gaming conference in Japan. In the game, our heroes will have to overcome a mysterious tower containing the portals to other worlds. Details are still scarce, but we know it will be a single-player game with optional purchases.

NetEase has long dominated the mobile games sector. This is due to its strong position in China, both in the market of its games and through partnerships with other companies. For example, NetEase runs Chinese versions of Blizzard games such as World of Warcraft and Overwatch.

The company recently succeeded with Diablo Immortal, a game developed with Activision Blizzard. The game brought in over $49 million in revenue in its first month and another $97 million in August after a delayed release in China. Today the company is expanding: it is acquiring AAA developer Quantic Dream and is attempting to enter other markets, such as Poland.

Shueisha Games’ new partnership with NetEase will help the company enter the Japanese market. To this end, the company set up Nagoshi Studio in the country earlier this year and hired Sega veteran Toshihiro Nagoshi as head director.

Side note: Animoca Brands acquires WePlay Media.
