A new GSD report indicates that games sales in April 2023 in Europe have fallen, while hardware sales have risen strongly.

In April, 10.4 million PC and console games were sold in Europe, down 5.3% from the same period in 2022. April game sales were led by Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It’s a strong launch for the new Star Wars game, as sales are up almost 6% compared to its predecessor, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The share of digital sales rose from 35% to 55%, highlighting the fact that digital is increasingly capturing the market.

Dead Island 2 came in third, with sales in the first two weeks a third lower than the Resident Evil 4 remake.

What are the sales figures for consoles and peripherals according GSD report?

In terms of hardware sales, console sales were up almost 58% in individual markets compared to last April. All three consoles performed well. PS5 sales were up 144% year-on-year to become the best-selling platform of the month, Nintendo Switch sales were up almost 38%, while XBOX showed an increase of 19%.

Nintendo, on the other hand, consolidated its position with the release of a limited edition series to coincide with the release of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Sales of next-generation console accessories also rose, up 11% compared to April 2022. The PS5 DualSense controller leads the way, followed by the Xbox Series wireless controller.
