Liftoff has released a detailed report on the casual mobile games market situation in Q1 2023. The overall share of hypercasual games downloads dropped from about 50% in Q1 2021 to just over 30% in Q1 2023. Mobile game developers are adapting and combining game mechanics and layers from two or more genres to create hybrid casual games.

Instead of scaling quickly, developers are prioritizing incremental revenue growth and long-term profits. A major trend in the first quarter was the addition of mini-games to projects. They were in 23% of casual games in the top 200.

The average CPI of casual games was $0.98. That’s $0.12 less than a year ago. The cheapest CPI was for simulation games at $0.59, and the most expensive was for lifestyle games at $1.32.

Regarding regions, North America had the highest CPI for casual games at $3.59. By comparison, in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), it was $0.9. In Asia-Pacific, it was $0.76; in Latin America, it was $0.55.

Among all mobile games, hypercasual titles again gathered the most downloads. They accounted for 32.3% of downloads. However, this is much less than last year.
