Azur Games has acquired an 81% stake in Mushroom Wars from publisher Zillion Whales. Despite the acquisition of the development team and the intellectual property and trademarks of Zillion Whales, the brand remains with the investors, allowing the company to use past successes for further development.

Mushroom Wars 2 is the franchise’s most successful game, winning multiple awards, including Best App Store Game in 2016 and 2017. This contributed to the series receiving 20 million downloads.

More about Azur Games partnership

Now the mobile market is about quality products, and the Mushroom Wars series has surprised me with a level of development that no one has expected yet. The team doesn’t chase the quantity because the chances of releasing a hit are significantly reduced. And this is paying off – not many games from the industry have received as much attention and awards yet successfully entered the console and PC markets as Mushroom Wars 2 did. We appreciate their approach and try to invest in just such teams. The studio brand will remain with the original investors while we focus on working on the current project and launching new ones.

Dmitry Yaminsky, co-founder of Azur Games

This is the latest acquisition of Azur Games, which also acquired stakes in Pinpin Team and KobGames Studios. Also, last month, the studio talked about the importance of level design for player retention.

We are very excited to join the Azur Games team and are already feeling the synergy as we actively develop our first product together. It’s a strategic partnership that will benefit the parties and millions of players.
