American studio System Era Softworks has announced that it has a new owner. It has become part of Devolver Digital.

System Era Softworks said that the companies began working together more than eight years ago – shortly after the studio was founded in 2014. At that time, Devolver Digital almost became the publisher of the space survival game Astroneer. The companies turned out to have a similar business culture, so the current deal between them became “natural”.

The maximum amount of the deal will be $40 million, of which $22 million System Era Softworks will receive at once.

All terms of the agreement are not disclosed, but it is known that System Era Softworks’ management will remain the same. System Era Softworks will continue to support Astroneer. In addition, the studio will take on new projects, about which it is not yet ready to tell in detail.

Separately, the studio reported that to date, 13 million people have played Astroneer, and the gross revenue of the game exceeded $87 million.
