In 2023, gamers from around the world will spend about $194 billion on video games, according to predict analysts data.ai and IDC. Of this amount, $108 billion will be spent on mobile games.

The $108 billion is a significant amount, yet it falls short of the previous two years’ results. In 2022, user spending on mobile games was 3% higher in 2022 and 7% higher in 2021. As analysts explain, the tightened privacy policies on iOS have made it harder for companies to find “whales” and monetize games through IAPs. In addition, the decline was influenced by the restriction of game time for teenagers in China.

As for other market segments, of the $194 billion, home console games accounted for $43 billion (+3%), PC games accounted for $40 billion (+4%), and handheld games accounted for $3 billion (-20%).
